Flex Lewis leaving 212 bodybuilding division. Can Flex Lewis ever become Mr Olympia?

Flex Lewis will cross over to Men’s Open Bodybuilding

Since the creation of the IFBB 212 bodybuilding division, Flex Lewis has proven that he is the best 212 bodybuilder on the planet.  While maintain his quality while steadily improving on the quality that gave him the ability to dominate the 212 division. Flex Lewis has stated that this year’s Olympia would be his last as a 212 competitor.

When I first heard this announcement, I thought Flex Lewis was actually going to retire.  I was way off.  According to Neil Hill(Flex Lewis’s Coach), after the 2018 Mr. Olympia, he will be back in 2020 as a men’s open bodybuilding. Neil posted on his instagram after Flex Lewis announced on his Instagram that he was retiring from the 212 division. On his post:

“So 2018 will be Flex Lewis last year competing as a 212lb Athlete. He’s defended that tile from day one where he became the first ever 212lb @mrolympiallc . He’s endlessly traveled the world competing in different 212lb shows, and he’s also traveled the world relentlessly giving back to All the Fans, Athletes, Promotors and sport as a whole.

Yes this will be his last 212lb outing come September in Las Vegas, but he WILL be back at some point as a New reformed Open class bodybuilder at some point. maybe 2020, but whenever it maybe you will see a new level of quality size and muscle that will allow him to finally be competitive in the open class division.

Evolution is what life is about…”

In bodybuilding where so much emphasis is  placed on mass, Flex Lewis is a very if not the most complete bodybuilder, obviously with six straight 212 Olympia titles. There has only been a few competitors in IFBB history that have been able to have winning streaks in major competition, and he is one of them.  I believe that Flex Lewis can stand next to, if not beat many open bodybuilders.  Especially with taking 2019 off, he can probably put on a lot of quality size while maintaining his aesthetics. 2020 is going to be an interesting year.  What are your thoughts on Flex Lewis crossing over?
